Everything that happens in our body starts with our digestion, apart from oxygen and sunlight. After food has started being broken down in the stomach, our intestines continue the process and absorb the nutrients. Our overall wellbeing relies on a healthy gut as without one, you are at risk of having a range of conditions from bowel cancer to indigestion. As it is such a complex field, today we sat down with Dr Malcom Ball to discuss why gut health matters, and also how NutriKane is formulated to improve on overall gut stability.
While it is clear that the gut is essential, the problem is so complicated that research on the gut remains inconclusive. However, the field is a growing one, and there is enough information to know what is good, and what is bad for our digestion. Over the last several years there have been many studies that have been conducted specifically to show how bacterial flora found in the digestive system (known as the microbiome) relates not just to our general wellbeing but also many surprising conditions and even our mental health.
“The closer you are to having fresh food from nature, the more likely you are to be healthier”
Studies have found that a lot of bacteria found in our digestive system are also found in the soil. This symbiotic relationship probably came about as for millions of years we had no knowledge of bacteria and so ate our food unclean. It wasn’t until recently that our knowledge of bacteria has led us to keeping food sterile. Dr Ball gave insight into this and stated, “What we know absolutely, is that the closer you are to having fresh food from nature, the more likely you are to be healthier… doesn’t matter if you are largely vegetarian or largely meat eaters”. No matter what culture you look at, this is clearly seen. The more processed the food gets, the unhealthier the population. This is due to the mindset of the current day food market. The aim is to have food that is easy to store, easy to transfer, and to have the most calories in the smallest package possible. This has been combined with a tendency to oversimplify our relationship with foods, to say that a high fibre supplement and a vitamin tablet have the same benefits as eating a natural food that contains both. Unfortunately this reductionist approach has turned out to not be true in many cases.
This is where NutriKane differs. Rather than concentrating individual nutrients as a vitamin, as fibre supplement do, MediKane takes the opposite approach of finding whole foods that contain what research has said provides benefits to intestinal health. NutriKane doesn’t strip the natural properties of foods such as sorghum and sugarcane away, rather it keeps the health benefits of the foods and packages them in a convenient form for you to easily use.
